Norwegian Knitting - Scandiwork Slippers

Instructor: Kristin Drysdale       Class Capacity: 25
Class Level: Intermediate

Description ~ Norwegian Knitting - Scandiwork Slippers

Kristin loves teaching this class because it is colorwork in a nutshell. You will learn and master all the skills you need to conquer any colorwork project. In this class, you will complete at least one slipper. You have the option of knitting an Ingeborg (the easiest), Hansdatter, Hans Christian, Sørine Pattern, or Hansen included in class. You will learn how to knit and purl in colorwork. The first portion of the slipper is worked flat, and the top of the slipper is knit in the round.

Materials Needed ~ Norwegian Knitting - Scandiwork Slippers

  • 2 skeins (1 of each color) of Rauma Strikkegarn.
  • A set of DPNs or Flexiflips for the size of slippers you are making.

Homework ~ Norwegian Knitting - Scandiwork Slippers

Please swatch in colorwork to determine needle size needed for class. If you are new to colorwork, get gauge with a single color and bump up one needle size for colorwork.

The gauge for these slippers is 24 stitches over 4 inches knit in colorwork.

Kristin used a US 4 to get gauge. The size of the slipper is determined by the size of needle you use. To make a medium women's slipper (US shoe size 6-9) you will need to use whatever size DPN or Flexiflips you need to get gauge.

If you want to make larger women's slipper ( US shoe size 9.5-12) , you will use one needle size larger (I would use US 5) and if you want to make a smaller slipper (US 4-5.5) use one size smaller (US 3).
